Tom Felton doesn't need a wand to work his magic in the theater.
The award-winning British actor, who played "Harry Potter" antagonist Draco Malfoy in the movie franchise adaptation of J.K. Rowling's bestselling children's novels, made his Broadway debut in the Potter spin-off production "Harry Potter and The Cursed Child" on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Felton, who is reprising his role of Malfoy at The Lyric Theatre in New York City for a limited six-month run, earned a thunderous reception when he hit the stage, as seen in show footage shared on social media.
Before Felton, 38, could even utter his first line, the mere sight of the actor made viewers erupt into cheers. Ever the showman, Felton calmly delivered his dialogue once the applause settled down: "I need a favor."
Written by Jack Thorne, "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is an original play that takes place 19 years after the events of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," the final book in the "Harry Potter" series. Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley all return in the story, which features Harry's son, Albus Severus Potter, and Malfoy's son, Scorpius Malfoy.
The play first debuted at the Palace Theatre in London in July 2016, followed by productions in New York City; San Francisco, California; Melbourne Australia; Hamburg, Germany; Toronto; and Tokyo.
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" has won several awards over the course of its nearly decadelong run, including nine Laurence Olivier Awards.
