CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The parents of Ariana Baldwin, a 6-year-old girl who died after being found unresponsive in a backyard pool in Gastonia last year, filed a federal civil rights lawsuit in connection with her death.

The announcement was made in Uptown on Wednesday. The lawsuit was filed against Gaston Count, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, Caromont Regional Medical Center and the Dallas Fire and Rescue Department.

Last May, Baldwin was found unresponsive in a backyard pool. County records show that Ariana was at a friend's house to celebrate a birthday. She was last seen in the morning on a trampoline. She was later found in the deep end of the pool and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
