A suspect has been charged in weekend shooting that killed a 31-year-old man.

Benjamin Williams, 33, is charged with capital murder in the Saturday slaying of Jeremiah Stone. He is also charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, Birmingham police announced Tuesday night.

Williams was taken into custody Monday and is being held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.

West Precinct officers were dispatched at 11:20 p.m. Saturday to a report of a person shot in the 1800 block of Henry Crumpton Drive.

Police said they arrived to find Stone wounded in the road. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced him dead on the scene.

Police learned a second male gunshot victim was in the 2500 Block of John Bryant Road.
