Victorian Liberal MP Moira Deeming has blasted the state government over revelations on Sky News that the 11-year-old granddaughter of a high-profile Olympian had failed to qualify for a sporting competition after placing third behind another girl and a transgender student.
Emily, a Year 5 student at a country Victorian school, took her fight for girls’ rights to Spring Street on Wednesday after failing to make it into the top two spots at her inter-school athletics meet.
“It was nearly my first year making it to regionals and it was a bit sad not making it there,” Emily told Sky News in a sit-down interview from parliament.
