GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Barber Park Event Center is getting a new name after a unanimous vote from the Greensboro City Council on Tuesday.

It's set to be named after the late Yvonne Johnson, who served on the council for more than 30 years before her death in 2024.

The center's formal title will be the "Yvonne J. Johnson Event Center at Barber Park."

Johnson made history as Greensboro's first-ever Black mayor.
