For many people, homeownership is still part of the American dream, but new data suggests Americans are having to wait longer to turn that dream into a reality.

The National Association of Realtors says the average first-time home buyer is now 40, an all-time high. The path to homeownership could be even tougher if you live in Northern Virginia.

President Trump recently proposed a 50-year mortgage as a way to help Americans get into the housing market. Its's an idea that drawn mixed reaction: It would mean lower monthly payments but significantly more money in interest.
