INDIANAPOLIS — Bobcats have been reported in all but one Indiana county.
That's according to DNR Wildlife Biologist Geriann Albers, who says bobcats have been off the state's endangered species list since 2005.
"We want bobcats to continue to thrive in Indiana," said Albers. "We want every county to have robust bobcat populations someday, but when there are opportunities to allow regulated harvest in a way that we think is sustainable, we like to provide that as an outdoor opportunity as well."
That's why, Albers said, Indiana DNR approved the state's first bobcat trapping season . It runs Nov. 8 through Jan. 31.
There is a statewide limit of 250 bobcats for the inaugural season. Each appropriately licensed trapper can only take one bobcat, said Albers.
