DETROIT, MI – Detroit’s plan to transform the Renaissance Center and reconnect downtown to the riverfront advanced Wednesday as the city’s Downtown Development approved $75 million in funding for a $1.6 billion redevelopment.

The approval marked a pivotal step to advance the project slated to bring public plazas, pedestrian promenades, and new housing in a mixed-use waterfront district.

Detroit’s riverfront redevelopment is backed by a $1 billion investment from Dan Gilbert and Bedrock, $250 million from General Motors and this $75 million commitment.

DDA funding will be used for public infrastructure including a pedestrian promenade from Jefferson Avenue to the riverfront and public plazas, according to a release from Bedrock.
