LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky’s film incentive program has employed 27,000 people and attracted more than 250 productions since its establishment in 2022, according to state economic development officials.
The Kentucky Entertainment Incentive offers up to 35% in refundable tax credits for productions filmed anywhere in the commonwealth. Industry leaders and Lexington native actor Josh Hopkins discussed the program’s impact at Wednesday’s Commerce Lexington Regional Summit .
Hopkins, known for TV series “Cougar Town” and “Quantico,” said 38 states now offer similar incentives. He said rising costs in Los Angeles and New York create opportunities in Kentucky that weren’t available when he started his acting career.
