Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) is opening up about why he decided to break ranks with the Democratic Party to advance a deal in hopes of ending the longest-ever federal government shutdown .
Kaine joined seven other Democrats in voting in favor of the legislative package, which passed the Senate in a 60-40 vote on Monday and would fund the government until Jan. 30. It is now making its way to the House for a vote expected Wednesday evening.
Ahead of the recent vote, Democrats had remained united against the House-passed GOP proposal, putting forth their own plan centered on Obamacare subsidies set to expire by the end of the year.
