The San Francisco 49ers suffered their biggest loss of the season in Week 10 against NFC West rival Los Angeles. The Rams jumped out to a 21-7 halftime lead and cruised to a 42-26 victory.
That loss marked the most points the 49ers' defense has given up in a single game this season. With stars Nick Bosa and Fred Warner out for the entire season, San Francisco struggled to keep up with the Rams' offense in their second matchup of the year against Los Angeles.
The offense managed 393 total yards as backup quarterback Mac Jones led the way.
Sitting at 6-4 entering a Week 11 road game against another NFC West team (Arizona), many are wondering: will franchise quarterback Brock Purdy finally return to the field?
Purdy initially injured his shoulder and toe in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks and returned to take on Jacksonville in Week 4 but hasn't played since.
San Francisco is in the thick of a tight NFC playoff race with seven games to go. The 49ers are in the hunt as the No. 8 seed in the conference. A victory against Arizona would give them a win in the division and conference, the latter being crucial for tiebreakers
Here's what we know about Purdy's status entering this week.
When will Brock Purdy return?
Purdy did not start in Week 9 or Week 10 and was listed as questionable but coach Kyle Shanahan said that he was available if need be. Purdy was limited in practice on Wednesday, Nov. 12, but he looked to be throwing more than in previous weeks, when he was also listed as limited in the 49ers' practice. Shanahan called it an "aggressive practice," and that gives him a better chance to start Week 11.
Purdy, an Arizona native, would be making just his third start of the season if he suits up on Sunday. Practice designations are crucial for the rest of the week. If he's no longer limited later in the week, that'll increase his likelihood of starting in Week 11. If he's still limited, Jones could make the start once again.
49ers QB depth chart
- Brock Purdy (questionable)
- Mac Jones
- Adrian Martinez
- Kurtis Rourke (non-football injury list)
Despite starting every game since Week 4, Jones has spent a lot of time on the 49ers' injury report as well, primarily with a knee injury. If Purdy is inactive, like he was in Week 10, Martinez would likely be the backup quarterback to Jones.
