HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) - A search remains underway for a missing man after a crew in the mine hit a pocket of water, flooding the tunnels at the Rolling Thunder Mine in Nicholas County.

The National Cave Rescue Commission walked WSAZ through what goes into a water rescue.

Gretchen Baker with the organization said they help train people for such rescues, adding that she helps out in cave rescues herself.

“As far as I know, it’s not very common to hit a pocket of water and have flooding like that,” Baker said. “And it’s very hard to prepare for those unexpected things like that. So, that’s a tough one because when you have water underground, you have to deal with it in various ways.
