WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — For the past 43 days, Veronica Tiznado and her husband have been giving away free food to anyone who needs it. Meanwhile, their dream of opening a second restaurant location sits unfinished just feet away from where they're serving those meals.
The owners of Tacos y Mariscos Ofelia are caught in an impossible situation during the longest government shutdown in American history. Their business depends heavily on workers from nearby Robins Air Force Base , but those workers haven't received paychecks in more than six weeks.
"We're giving away birria tacos and agua frescas to anybody in need because of the government shutdown," Tiznado said Wednesday while serving free meals outside their new location on South Armed Forces Boulevard.
