Drivers will soon see a new type of patrol vehicle on area highways.

The 20 graduates of the Indiana State Police 87th Recruit Academy were issued new Dodge Durango SUVs on Wednesday, officials announced.

The vehicles were given a new design that is based on patrol car designs from the mid-1960s, allowing Troopers’ patrol vehicles to stand out from other police cars, according to a news release.

Anthony Scott, state police superintendent, commented on the new design.

“While the color scheme is a salute to our past, it is also a bridge to the future of the Indiana State Police, a future that each of these young troopers will help forge,” he said in a statement. “We are excited to have both our new troopers and these new look Dodge Durangos begin their service in communities throughout I
