Reno City Councilmember Miguel Martinez was elected to a one-year term as vice mayor during the Wednesday, Nov. 12, meeting.
As vice mayor, Martinez will fill in whenever Mayor Hillary Schieve is absent. If the mayor’s seat becomes vacant, the vice mayor serves as interim mayor until an election is held.
The council selects its vice mayor each November.
Schieve nominated Councilmember Devon Reese, but he declined because he has already served as vice mayor twice. He instead recommended Martinez, the Ward 3 representative.
“I would love to have you. You are a joy to work with,” Schieve said.
