Opposition Leader Sussan Ley and shadow energy minister Dan Tehan have finalised the Liberal Party's position on net zero following months of debate.
Ms Ley and her shadow ministry met on Thursday to formalise the party policy, following a nearly five-hour partyroom meeting on Wednesday .
The shadow ministry agreed to dump net zero targets but will remain part of the Paris Agreement on climate change.
This move was seen as a concession to moderates who will maintain that a net zero future would be a "welcome" outcome, but without having any official target.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has accused the opposition of becoming "more right wing" and denying climate change over the policy change.
