A major road is closed after a crash involving a van and car in the South East took place in the early hours of the morning.

The M20 in Kent is closed in both directions between junction 8 at Hollingbourne and junction 9 at Ashford due to the collision that occurred just after 12am on Thursday, November 13.

There are several diversions in place as the incident is ongoing and police are at the scene.

There is a large queue of traffic and delays are likely.

National Highways said in a statement: "The M20 in Kent is closed in both directions between J8 (Hollingbourne) and J9 (Ashford) due to a collision involving a van and a car.

"Kent Police are at scene, as are National Highways Traffic Officers who are assisting with traffic management."
