Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow took aim at Queen’s Park on Wednesday over new provincial legislation that would make it easier for landlords to evict problem tenants.
Speaking to reporters ahead of Wednesday’s city council meeting, Chow promised to oppose Bill 60 , which she claims throws a monkey wrench into housing availability and erodes renters’ rights.
“Half of Toronto’s residents rent their homes,” she said, more or less acknowledging the city’s affordability crisis and the struggle for residents to find affordable homes to purchase.
“If you want to build more rental housing, work with the city to make it more affordable to build — not easier to evict.”
