The U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill Nov. 12 to end the nation's longest-running government shutdown , negotiated by a small group of Democrats who broke with their party to make a deal with Republicans.
Indiana's Democratic representatives were among the majority of Democrats who voted against the funding package, which did not deliver their original demand that defined the stalemate: an extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies that expire Dec. 31. The deal instead promises a separate vote before the end of the year on the subsidies, back pay to federal workers furloughed during the shutdown, and money to keep the government open through Jan. 30.
The Senate approved the measure the evening of Nov. 10. President Donald Trump has said he will sign it.
