LOS ANGELES & PHOENIX – Waymo announced Nov. 12 that its autonomous taxis will offer rides on freeways in three major markets in a major step forward in the implementation of autonomous vehicles.
The Google subsidiary said in a blog post that it is offering the expanded robotaxi service to users in Los Angeles, Phoenix and the Bay Area who have signed up to be "trusted testers" in its ride-sharing app. It added that it would expand the service to other users "over time," but did not specify when.
Waymo also announced an expansion of its service range in the Bay Area, adding the San Francisco Peninsula from its namesake city to San Jose.
