A winter storm is set to peak on Thursday (Nov. 3) in California, with Sierra Nevada's Mammoth Mountain delaying its ski season. The popular resort aims to be one of the first ski resorts in the state to open its slopes.
Ironically, while a snowstorm is expected to bring in some favorable ski conditions, weather forecasters predict a variety of disruptive conditions. These include heavy rains that could lead to wet snow.
Ahead of Mammoth Mountain's postponement, Mt. Rose in Nevada also had to push its opening due to recent warm temperatures. The weather has been fickle across the Sierra Nevada, which has been a concern among skiers for months now.
Here is a closer look at the winter storm hitting California, as well as its impact on the mixed fortunes of the 2025-2026 ski season.
