Further rate cuts could effectively be “done and dusted” after fresh jobs data showed a lift in employment in October, an economist has warned.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday revealed the unemployment rate fell to 4.3 per cent last month, below the expected drop to 4.4 per cent.

However, the ABS noted this was in line with the unemployment rate in June, July and August.

This follows the rate lifting to 4.5 per cent in September after hovering around four per cent for more than a year and a half.

The ABS head of labour statistics Sean Crick said this drop was unusual for this time of year.

“This month, more unemployed people moved into employment compared to a typical October,” Mr Crick said.
