WASHINGTON (KCRG) - President Trump signed a funding bill Thursday night after the U.S. House passed it in a vote of 222 to 209, ending the longest government shutdown in U.S. history.
Six Democrats voted in favor of the measure, while two Republicans voted against it. Iowa lawmakers including Mariannette Miller-Meeks, Zach Nunn, and Ashley Hinson voted in favor of ending the shutdown.
The shutdown caused federal workers to go without several paychecks and more than 40 million people to lose SNAP benefits. Travelers endured chaos at airports during the closure.
Negotiations had stalled for weeks as Democrats tried to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits that are expiring soon. Republicans said that was a separate policy fight to have another time.
