The longest government shutdown in U.S. history has come to an end.

In the late hours of the night on Wednesday (November 11), President Donald Trump signed a funding bill that will reopen the government after a 43 day shutdown, the longest in the history of the U.S.

Earlier this week, eight Senators from the Democratic caucus voted with the Republicans, breaking with the Democrats, to advance legislation to bring an end to the shutdown.

The vote went to the House on Wednesday night and the final vote was 222-209 in favor of funding the bill, with several Democrats voting for it.

Before signing the bill, Trump called for the end of the filibuster.
