Australians have been dazzled by a stunning display of the southern lights overnight , as the aurora australis danced across skies around the country.
From Tasmania to Victoria and as far north as southern Queensland , stargazers stayed up late on Wednesday night to catch the colourful glow painting the horizon in shades of pink, purple and green.
Many shared breathtaking photos of the phenomenon, flooding social media feeds early Thursday morning.
