News of a housing development for Tamworth, which includes social housing, has been welcomed by social housing advocates and Tamworth Regional Council.
Statistics show that rental vacancy rates in Tamworth are among the lowest in the state, at around 1.6 per cent. Therefore, an announcement that Homes NSW will deliver a mixed-tenure redevelopment for 89 new dwellings has people talking.
Homes NSW has acquired a 6.7-hectare block of former TAFE NSW land for the subdivision, which is set to become home for up to 220 residents. It will include 39 social homes for seniors and about 50 private market houses.
The vacant, unused land, located on the north-western edge of Tamworth, partially fronts Daruka Road and is not used by Tamworth TAFE.
The land was identified as surplus government-owne
