The Indian Air Force (IAF) has commissioned the Mudh-Nyoma airbase in Ladakh, one of the highest operational airbases in the world, at an altitude of 13,710 feet.

The airbase was inaugurated on Wednesday by Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, who flew from Hindon airbase in Noida to Nyoma aboard a C-130J Super Hercules aircraft.

He was accompanied by Western Air Command Chief Air Marshal Jitendra Mishra.

Developed at a cost of around ₹218 crore, the Nyoma airbase is located just 25 kilometres from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.

The new facility is expected to significantly enhance India’s combat readiness and logistics capabilities in the strategically sensitive region by allowing faster movement of troops and equipment.
