Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson has called on Labour to back the SNP’s call for a “social tariff” on energy bills. ‌

Analysis by SNP ministers predicts the introduction of such a tariff would benefit more than 600,000 households north of the Border and lift 202,000 out of extreme fuel poverty. ‌

The new modelling finds that approximately 660,000 households could see estimated fuel bills cut by an average of £700. ‌

Such a system would follow the example of other European countries like Spain who already offer substantial discounts on energy costs for struggling billpayers.
