The Indian Premier League 2026 auction will take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16, marking the third straight year the event is being staged outside India.
The auction first moved abroad in 2023, when Dubai hosted the event, followed by Jeddah in Saudi Arabia last year.
BCCI officials confirmed that logistical considerations influenced the decision to keep the auction overseas. Despite speculation about a return to India, the mini-auction will remain a one-day event where all 10 franchises aim to strengthen their squads. Teams have until November 15 to finalise player retentions.
