Building temporary shelters this week is part of Fanshawe College’s plan to give London-area high school students hands-on experience while helping address the city’s homelessness crisis.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, teams of students from local high schools are taking part in a project to build 2.4-metre by 3.7-metre (eight-by-12-foot) temporary shelters, guided by faculty from Fanshawe’s school of building technology.

The project is a partnership between Fanshawe College and the London and District Construction Association, whose staff will also oversee the work.

More than 20 students from both the London District Catholic and Thames Valley District school boards are taking part in the initiative, which aims to provide shelters for London’s homeless population.
