The historic 1800s-era farmhouse in Hyde Park that’s home to Crossings Pub and Grill could have a date with the wrecking ball on the horizon after city politicians endorsed a plan for two apartment buildings to replace it.

Members of city council’s planning and environment committee voted 4-1 Wednesday both to deny heritage designation for the historic building at 1269 Hyde Park Rd., but additionally in favour of a planning application that would see the property host two 15-storey apartment towers and a two-storey restaurant building.

“When we look at our own urban growth boundary review, we hear ‘Well, we don’t want urban sprawl . . . we need higher density and we need infill’,” said chair Steve Lehman, the ward councillor.
