A horse died after flames tore through a barn at a horse farm Wednesday afternoon.
Around 3:30 p.m., the Attleboro Fire Department got to 40 Cumberland St. to find a large barn engulfed in flames. However, the property’s narrow roadway slowed down firefighters.
When crews were able to reach the barn, they quickly began knocking down the fire while searching for several horses that were trapped inside.
Firefighters rescued multiple horses before conditions deteriorated. One horse died, and the barn is considered a total loss.
“The quick, coordinated actions of our crews under very difficult conditions prevented a much greater tragedy,” said District Chief Michael Maitland. “Their determination and teamwork saved not only the home but also several animals.”
