A memorial ghost bike honouring Winnipeg cyclist Rob Jenner was damaged Friday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Wellington Crescent — reigniting calls for long-promised safety improvements along the busy street.

The white-painted bike, which marks the site where Jenner was killed by a driver in June 2024, was hit around 8:50 a.m. by the driver of a grey-brown Hyundai SUV near the intersection of Wellington Crescent and Cockburn Street, witnesses said.

Video provided by a nearby resident shows the SUV reversing off the boulevard grass before continuing down Wellington Crescent. The bike’s frame was bent around a light pole, its plaque cracked and nearly illegible.
