The longest government shutdown in U.S. history has ended, after President Donald Trump signed a bill to fund the government late Wednesday night.
The legislation cleared the House of Representatives by a 222-209 vote after a 43-day shutdown, which left federal workers furloughed, national parks without staff and those who receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program , or SNAP, without funds.
All but two House Republicans voted for the bill, and only six Democrats voted for the bill, which will fund the government until Jan. 30.
Trump blasted Democrats as he signed the bill late Wednesday, Nov. 12, accusing "extremists in the other party" of creating the shutdown for political reasons, USA TODAY reported.
