Mack Rhoades , the Baylor athletic director, has abruptly taken a leave of absence for personal reasons, according to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger. Rhoades also happens to be serving as the chair of the College Football Playoff selection committee.

The timing couldn’t be more awkward. This comes days after reports surfaced about a sideline incident from September 20 that had already put Rhoades under intense scrutiny. That incident involved Baylor tight end Michael Trigg. Trigg was wearing a gold long-sleeved undershirt during the Bears’ home game against Arizona State.

Rhoades allegedly grabbed Trigg by the shirt on the sideline. And while using expletives, he questioned why Trigg was wearing it when the rest of the team had dark-colored undershirts.
