DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — POLICE DISCOVERED THE bodies of an 80-year-old woman and her 52-year-old son inside a downtown Brooklyn apartment on Jay Street near Tillary Street on Wednesday, after neighbors reported a foul odor, according to the New York Daily News .

Officers conducting a wellness check found both deceased; although neither showed visible signs of trauma, police said, the mother’s body was in an advanced state of decomposition. The mother appeared to have died first, according to a police source. The victims’ identities have not been released pending family notification.

No criminality is currently suspected, pending autopsy results from the city Medical Examiner.
