WASHINGTON, D.C. (WILX) - Several Mid-Michigan communities will see federal funding as a result of legislation passed Wednesday night as Congress voted to approve a funding bill, ending the longest government shutdown in American history after 43 days.
Michigan State University will receive about $3 million for agricultural research, while Livingston County will get nearly half a million dollars to improve its 911 Central Dispatch System and Putnam Township will get funding for a new fire truck.
Congressman Tom Barrett said Thursday he “fought for and secured” just over $4 million for these projects.
“Mid-Michigan residents deserve to have their tax dollars spent on projects that will have a real and lasting impact on the communities they call home,” Barrett said, per a press release.
