The head of Windsor-Essex Pride Fest resigned after facing public backlash over comments made on local radio a day earlier about transgender women competing in sports.
In a statement to the Star on Thursday, Wendi Nicholson apologized for her remarks, saying she is “sorry for my words which have hurt those I care about deeply.”
She acknowledged her comments were “misinformed” and said she should have refused the interview or directed it to a “better-fitted” organization.
“I am committed to working towards inclusion and education, and welcome opportunities to further educate myself,” Nicholson said. “I truly am sorry for the words I spoke that hurt those I care about.
