TUSKEGEE, Ala. ( WSFA ) - Tuskegee University filed a federal lawsuit and an emergency motion this week attempting to block the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) from moving forward with a hearing that could strip the nation’s only historically Black veterinary school of its accreditation status.
The filings, a complaint and an emergency motion for a preliminary injunction, were filed in response to what Tuskegee calls an “erroneous” decision by the accreditation arm of the AVMA to assign terminal accreditation status to the veterinary school for an alleged lack of compliance with certain aspects of its standards.
The lawsuit alleges that the AVMA is denying Tuskegee due-process rights and accuses them of failing to follow their own rules during the ongoing accreditation r
