Philanthropist Mackenzie Scott has donated an additional $50 million to Norfolk State University, the largest award the university has received in its history.

This is the billionaire’s second gift to the university since she donated $40 million in 2020 and comes amid a new string of donations to support historically black colleges and universities. NSU said the money would “catapult Norfolk State to its next level of excellence,” adding that it would be invested to support student scholarships, faculty research and service, athletics and more.
