Anthony Scott Good, the U.S. Border Patrol chief in the El Paso Sector, confirmed to the El Paso Times that shots were fired from Juárez at a Border Patrol agent last week.

The incident occurred at 7:44 a.m. on Nov. 7. The agent was following a group of migrants who had illegally crossed into the U.S. when he reported shots fired from the south bank of the Rio Grande, Good said.

The official statement was delayed due to the shutdown of the federal government. Good did not confirm whether the shots struck the agent's vehicle.

The shooting occurred near El Monumento al Cigarro in Juárez.

Additional agents responded in a show of force, but no agents fired their weapons. The Mexican Army, the National Guard and Juárez municipal police also respond to the shooting.
