A Riverside County sheriff who endorsed President Donald Trump has a slim lead among a field of California governor hopefuls, a recent poll found.
The poll from the Institute of Governmental Studies at UC Berkeley, conducted in late October, found that 13% of California registered voters supported Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco for governor in next year’s primary election. It’s a slight gain from the 10% of voter support Bianco, a Republican, received in August.
The last time California voters elected a Republican governor was Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
While Bianco has a slight lead over a field of candidates running for governor, a majority of which are Democrats, a large portion of voters, or 44%, are undecided, according to the Berkeley IGS Poll.
