Tesla has recalled some of its rechargeable home battery systems because the batteries in them can overheat and start a fire.

Tesla recalled 10,500 Powerwall 2 AC Battery Power Systems because the lithium-ion battery cells “can cause the unit to stop functioning during normal use, which can result in overheating and, in some cases, smoke or flame and can cause death or serious injury due to fire and burn hazards,” according to an announcement with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The systems were sold online at Tesla.com/powerwall and through certified Tesla installers nationwide from November 2020 through December 2022 for about $8,000.
