Mark Ingram had the game-clinching drive against South Carolina in 2009. Derrick Henry had the LSU game in 2015 . DeVonta Smith had his catch against LSU in 2020. Bryce Young had the finish to the Iron Bowl in 2021.

They each had a Heisman moment or a Heisman game. As a result, those Alabama superstars each won the Heisman Trophy.

A Heisman moment isn’t an absolute requirement to win the sport’s top award, but having one helps. It grabs the attention of the college football world. It puts a statement at the top of a player’s candidacy.

So far, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson doesn’t have one. He’s had good moments and plenty of impressive plays, but not one quite yet in the Heisman-moment category.

Prime opportunities still remain, though. His best chance might be this weekend.
