An Alabama girl is recovering after she was attacked by a dog on the front steps of her Hanceville home.
Delyla McCay, 9, was sitting outside waiting for her father to pick her up Friday when someone walked by with an Australian Cattle Dog, also known as a blue heeler, on a leash.
Without warning, said Delyla’s mother, Katie McCay, the dog latched onto the girl’s face.
“It was shaking her and wouldn’t let go,” McCay said.
A nearby teen girl rushed to help Delyla, beating on the dog until it released Delyla’s face.
The seriously wounded 9-year-old victim rolled onto her stomach and the dog then bit her again.
“It took a huge hole out of her bottom,” McCay said. “It didn’t just bite her. It ate her.”
