A woman has been charged with murder after an elderly woman was found dead with significant injuries.

An 84-year-old woman's body was found in her Melonba home, in Sydney's northwest, on October 4.

A 50-year-old woman, who was known to the elderly victim, was arrested on Thursday by officers as part of Strike Force Vado, which was set up to investigate the death.

Detectives investigating the woman's death deemed it suspicious after receiving information following a post-mortem examination that she had suffered significant injuries before she died.

The accused has been charged with domestic violence-related murder and refused bail ahead of her appearance before Mount Druitt Local Court on Friday.
