On the evening of Saturday, November 9, Parkland County Fire Services responded to a fire at the GFL landfill located off of 231 Street NW, east of Acheson. The fire began in the southwest section of the site, which contained a mix of construction and demolition waste at the time.

On the afternoon of November 12, the fire is under control by the site owner via specialist industrial firefighting contractors. The fire is expected to burn for some time, with no specific timeline given.

Due to shifting wind conditions, smoke and odour from the flames could remain strong in the surrounding communities. The City of Edmonton is encouraging residents to reduce their exposure to this smoke by keeping windows and doors of buildings and vehicles closed during periods of particularly poor air qualit
