The second season starts in the first round of the playoffs. But to me, it’s the second week of the playoffs in high school football when the competition really reaches a new level.

Everyone that is still alive has advanced, either through an on-field victory or a first-round bye, to get to this point. That means everyone is good enough to win again on Friday and advance further, should things fall the right way for them.

Two Robeson County teams are still alive entering the second round, with St. Pauls benefiting from the first-round bye in the 5A playoffs and Red Springs winning on the road at Jordan-Matthews in the 4A playoffs.

As the competition gets stiffer, who will survive to play another Friday night under the lights? Here are predictions for the two local second-round matchups.
