JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, Ohio —

Two people are dead following a SWAT response in Adams County late Thursday.

It all unfolded around 8 p.m. Thursday night when deputies conducted a welfare check on on an elderly female along Wintersteen Run Road. Advertisement

Deputies discovered one person dead with apparent head trauma during the welfare check. When they attempted to contact a second person at a nearby home, they heard a gunshot from inside. SWAT was called to the scene, and upon entering the home, officers found a person dead from a gunshot wound.

Officials said there is no threat to the public at this time. The Ohio Bureau of Investigations is assisting the Adams County Sheriff's Office with the investigation.
