Occasionally, a statement resonates with its simplicity.

An American commentator discussing the Democrats’ win over the Republicans said: “Why can’t politicians realize that we just keep asking for normal?” Normal sounds easy, but we keep moving in the opposite direction.

After 10 days of ceremonies for Canadians who lost their lives in war, it did not seem normal for a judge in New Brunswick to ask a lawyer to remove his poppy.

No doubt there are technical arguments why the judge did this, maybe some justification, but it offends us to remove a poppy in this country. It is a symbol of the fight for freedom that results in the very existence of judges and courtrooms.
